It is known for its fruit, characterized by a brown skin, covered with thorns, inside which there is some sugary pulp which in turn surrounds the innermost, hard and fibrous part called the core or heart. At the end of the fruit there are hard leaves that retain water and provide nourishment to the plant. Depending on the variety, the fruit can vary in size, the weight varies between 1 and 5 kg. There are about one hundred varieties of pineapple in the world, all of which can be traced back to four groups: Cayenne, Spanish, Queen and Abacaxi. The light-fleshed and very sweet-tasting Cayenne is one of the most popular because it is particularly suitable for canning. The pineapple is grown both for its typical and tasty fruits, both as an ornamental plant, and for the production of some types of fibers, in all tropical regions, especially in the Ivory Coast, Costa Rica and Kenya.
The fruit has multiple beneficial properties, facilitates the digestion and assimilation of proteins by the body, and its juice is particularly suitable for treating diphtheria. It is also widely used in the kitchen, as it is a refreshing and very good food.
The ideal climate in which to cultivate the plant is typical of tropical countries, the majority of world pineapple production comes from South America and in particular from Costa Rica, Honduras, Brazil, Mexico, Ecuador, but also from Ghana, Cameroon, Kenya. , from the countries of Southeast Asia and from China, although it is also and above all cultivated in preheated greenhouses.
